I am a C.Ht also, and for many years I have poured over NLP literature to try and find solid, pragmatic instruction in Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Seminars and training have rarely been done in my part of the country and those that I have looked into were financially more than I wanted to spend as a beginner. Then I found Strategies of Genius, by Dilts, which was very helpful. Most everything else I ever read only seemed to give enough information to frustrate me. Schlomo Vaknin’s work filled a large void.

If anyone wanted to get acquainted with NLP I would suggest NLP for Beginners and the Big Book of NLP as a starting place. Buy them together and study them. Take your time and USE the information. I sincerely believe this would give you a strong and SUBSTANTIVE foundation in NLP and prompt you to go further. Read these two books first and all the other stuff will make better sense to you. That’s my humble opinion.

Definitely the best introductory books on neuro-linguistic-programming, Very thorough and interesting, organized in a Q&A format, and teaches the basic to advance principles in a clear lingo.

One of the best chapters in this book, in my opinion, is the exploration of submodalities.

I’m only beginning to learn NLP, and this book has proven to be a great resource to learn from. It covers all the basics, and then some, mostly in a Q&A format, but there are also plenty of self-exploration exercises. The writing is clear and direct, very engaging. I also bought now the book of patterns: The Big Book Of NLP Techniques: 200+ Patterns & Strategies of Neuro Linguistic Programming

Highly recommended.

I am a regular reader of Shlomo's NLP Weekly Magazine for 6 years now, so I got used to his "no-fluff" style of writing. He did not let us down here.

This book is a great primer for anyone who wants to dive into NLP, but not sure where to begin.

NLP For Beginners covers all the basics and beyond. It starts from the ultimate question, What IS NLP, and goes through most of the concepts of the NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner levels. It is designed in a Question-Answer format, so re-learning key ideas is easier.

Much like his other books, this book is quite massive and full of practical information and advise, and I highly recommend it. Rating: 5 / 5

This is NOT a book for Intermediat or Advanced NLPers because it is geared for Beginner. I've been struggling for years with learning NLP & have run into so much jargon surrounding it that at times I gave up on it but always wetn back. What this book has done is qualify & quantify the terms & jargon that the Intermediate & Advanced practitioners babble on about like Engineers do with their jargon.

What Vaknin did was take a highly complex subject and break it down into small chunks of information without being obtuse. I really do believe too many so-called NLP trainers out there get off on using the jargon just to make themselves appear to be greater than they really are. Not here with Vaknin & this is what counts for those who are Beginners.

Ever wonder what V.A.K. stands for? It's in here. How about designing Well Formed Outcomes? Vaknin will explain how to do that in a succinct & non-jargon manner. Ever wonder what a `Lost Performative' consists of? Like Ragu, it's in here too! You get all that & more for the low cost.

Vaknin discusses Meta-Programs, Modeling, SWISH pattern, Creating Anchors & Collapsin Anchors, Mirroring, Pacing, Leading, When NOT to Mirror, and so on. TONS of practical how-to info in a down to Earth, sensible bite sized amount of info per module.

Within the first 20 pages, I became an instant fan of the author. He's got the know-how & this book is a valuable resource on NLP. If you just want ONE NLP book on your bookshelf, then get THIS one as it will take & give you the info you need to move into the realm of an Intermediate level of knowledge.

I was so impressed with this book that I went ahead and ordered the author's follow up book, "The Big Book of NLP Techniques: 200 + Patterns & Strategies of Neuro-Linguistic Programming" which is an utter GOLDMINE of how-to patterns that you an use but that's another review in itself!

In all, I ratethis book a total of 5 out of 5 stars for completeness, thoroughness & lack of arrogance. Yes lack of arrogance! You'll enjoy the fact that Vaknin does NOT talk down to you when you read this book & that I thank him for. Rating: 5 / 5
