FIGURING OUT PEOPLE

The subtext of this book is, "Deepening Understanding of People for Better Rapport, Relationships, and Influence". Certainly a worthwhile endeavor.

Actually, this book contains a very large collection of many of the currently observable Meta-Programs.  These Meta-Program patterns make up the bulk of the book and are categorized by Bob and Michael in these five areas:

  • "Mental" Meta-Programs
  • "Emotional" Meta-Programs
  • "Volitional" Meta-Programs
  • "Response" Meta-Programs
  • "Meta" Meta-Programs

The book also includes numerous Appendices, a bibliography, glossary and Author information.

timeline therapy and the basis of personality

Perhaps the first book to introduce Meta-Programs, this is a classic and somewhat advanced piece of NLP literature.  Actually the book has three major sections:

Time Line Therapy - a brilliant examination of how time alters our perceptions and affects our cognitive processes.  This portion of the book clearly describes Time Line Therapy and applications.

Meta Programs - although not as detailed as Shelle Rose Charvet's book, this section of the book has an interesting comparison to Carl Jung's personality types.  If you are familiar with Myer-Briggs, you will recognize the parallels in the different types and patterns.

Values - the last section of the book discusses the formation, evolution and hierarchy of values in our personalities.  This section includes some methods for changing and utilizing values for change.
